As I am traveling this week in Canada, I thought that I should share one technique with you that I put in place before I left my home. Since my laptop computer will not be available for my use as I am away from my home town, so I backed up all my data to a USB flash drive before I left for the airport because I wanted to have my “business” with me.
I believe that carrying your data on a USB flash drive is a much safer way as compare to leaving it on unprotected PCs, but a USB drive poses problems of its own; for instance, if you lose your flash drive which is very common these days, or have it stolen then anyone who plugs it into his computer could easily get access to all files and documents it contains. It is a BIG security risk, but you can avoid this risk if you protect your flash drive or any other such drive with a good USB security software.
If you simply Google ‘Protect USB’, you will get a list of good locking software providing complete USB security. Choose the one that suits best to your needs and requirements like I have chosen USB Secure as it is easy to use and a user-friendly software that does not complicate me with technical jargon and unfamiliar terms, while providing me complete USB security. In addition to protect USB flash drive, USB Secure also password protect my thumb drive and memory cards.
The most amazing thing that I like about USB Secure is its Autoplay feature that allows me to protect or unprotect data as soon as I plug in my USB drive to my computer. USB Secure automatically detects all the drives currently plugged in to your computer and asks you for the password and when you try to access your USB drive in Windows Explorer, the program asks you whether to open the protected drive or simply Explore the drive.
The program uses multiple layers of patent pending protection that makes its protection PC and hardware independent. Protecting USB drive with USB Secure is very easy and what I say it is fun to do. Files protected with USB Secure are delete-proof and cannot be accessed without your password.
In order to password protect your USB drive, you just have to install USB Secure on your drive and set the password. Now whenever you plug your USB drive in to your computer it will ask you for the password and let you protect your drive.
